Carbon-Neutral Pioneer - Chivas Brothers' Islay Debut
Gartbreck Farm Distillery represents Chivas Brothers' groundbreaking entry into Islay whisky production. This ambitious project will be the first carbon-neutral distillery on the island, setting new standards for sustainable whisky production.
Located near Bowmore, the distillery will combine Chivas Brothers' extensive whisky expertise with cutting-edge environmental technology. The project reflects Pernod Ricard's commitment to sustainable production while maintaining the traditional quality expected from Islay single malts.
The application was received by Argyll and Bute Council on 18 October 2024 and validated on 26 November 2024, following a proposal of application notice heard by the planning committee in June 2024. As of August 2026 no construction has been confirmed on site, and the project remains at the consenting stage.
No start on site has been confirmed. The distillery is not under construction and no production date has been announced.
